- A collection of stained glass panels by Gulfport artist Elissa Cardamone available exclusively at Domain Home Accessories & Gallery
Gulfport resident Elissa Cardamone is a stained glass artist specializing in the design and construction of leaded glass panels using the same methods and techniques employed as old world masters of the trade. She learned the craft and honed her skills while apprenticing with a master restorer of antique stained glass windows. Victorian and Edwardian influences are evident in her original designs, evidence of her experience in working with these styles of period windows during restorations. She explains that each time she restores a window she feels the hand of its creator, from a century past, and absorbs that energy which inspires her technique.
For her new creations, she bases her selection of glass on the emotion, texture, color, and luminosity the glass inspires. In each new design she attempts to incorporate some salvaged glass from an antique window, she says, “to carry on its life as a timeless witness to all it has seen, whether in a house of worship, a rich mansion or a public building.” Elissa first displayed her work locally during last year’s annual Gulfport SoStudio Tour where her accomplished originality was recognized and encouraged by the Gulfport artists’ community. Her art is among the most recent to be displayed and sold in “& Gallery,” debuting only a few weeks ago.
- VICTORIAN stained glass window by Elissa Cardamone. Artist’s statement: The Victorian period in stained glass contained consistent or traditional shapes seen by the artist as silent tributes to feminine beauty. The exaggerated focal point in this window is the artists’ attempt to break through the subtlety and present the seat of womanhood in the uterine shape.
