Domain Home Accessories & Gallery will feature “flame-chased metal” artist Kevin Webb during its next “Meet the Artists” event on Saturday, October 17th, 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. (3129 Beach Boulevard South in Gulfport). Webb’s metal “creatures” incorporate his own signature method of coloring and curing, resulting in bright, swirling hues. Complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvre will be offered during the event as well as live jazz.

Working out of his own 10th Avenue West Studios in the Bradenton Art Village, Webb crafts a metal menagerie of Florida wildlife, including fish, crabs, geckos and turtles. He developed his signature coloring process when a friend who worked with copper enameling was diagnosed with a degenerative eye disease and could no longer safely use a kiln. He attempted to develop a method of “cold enameling” for her, and though the experiment was unsuccessful, it resulted in the “flame-chased metal” process he has used on his art work ever since. With a torch, each piece is colored with a mix of polymer enamels and epoxy sealants, with a high gloss finish achieved from the curing process. The art works are weather-resistant and can be displayed indoors or outdoors. Webb uses recycled materials as much as possible, including roofing metals, wine bottles and fencing wire. Webb’s art work is available in galleries throughout the country. Domain Home Accessories & Gallery is the exclusive retailer of his work in the Tampa Bay area.

Watercolorist Shares Art & Openness About Parkinson’s

Domain Home Accessories & Gallery will welcome watercolor artist Ron Czerniec during its next “Meet the Artists” event on Saturday, September 19th, 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. (3129 Beach Boulevard South in Gulfport).

Czerniec relocated to St. Petersburg earlier this year and began offering his work at Domain very recently.  This will be his first appearance at the Gallery.  Complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvre will be offered during the event as well as live jazz.

While raising his family in Northern Virginia, Ron Czerniec pursued a successful career as a high-level financial officer with USA Today for 23 years.  He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2006, which necessitated his departure from the newspaper operation in 2008.

Since that time, he has passionately pursued his creative outlet of watercolor painting, in which he had only dabbled in previous years.  He has become a prolific watercolorist, including many depictions of Florida scenes he has captured since moving to St. Petersburg.

Czerniec has also passionately pursued outreach, education and advocacy for Parkinson’s for the past several years.  His forthcoming book, “A Life Interrupted –  Invaluable Lessons Learned in my Dance with Parkinson’s,” details his own journey with Parkinson’s and offers help and hope for others living with the same or other chronic, “life-interrupting” conditions.

Czerniec explains, “I call Parkinson’s ‘a perfect marriage; it never quits, is always there for you and increases its devotedness to you over time.’ Like a perfect marriage, there are good times, bad times, hope, sadness, happiness, emotional times and real learnings.”  Domain offers both original works and prints by Ron Czerniec.  The artist donates 10% of all proceeds from his art work to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

Since March 2001, Domain Home Accessories has offered unique art, décor, lighting, jewelry, greeting cards, home goods and more, earning a reputation as one of Gulfport’s most respected retailers.  “& Gallery” was added in 2012 to the adjacent space and now showcases the work of over 40 local and regional artists.

Gulfport’s 15th Annual GeckoFest!

geckofest full page 9-3-15

Gulfport’s 15th annual GeckoFest promises a full day of free family-friendly fun on Saturday, September 5th from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. The streets of the waterfront village will be filled with live music on two stages, hundreds of food, art and craft vendors, kids’ activities, and up close and personal street performances by a bevy of acrobats, magicians, daredevils, dancers, aerialists, escape artists, fire eaters, balloon artists and costumed characters. GeckoFest is located along Beach and Shore Boulevards in the heart of Gulfport.

The theme for this year’s festival is “Gecko Gras!” Join in the spirit of New Orleans if you wish and arrive in costume with your Mardi Gras finest. Or feel free to “geckofy” yourself. The GeckoFest wacky walking parade invites everyone to join in at 6:00. A costume contest for kids and adults will take place after the parade.

The festival will be flanked by two stages offering music throughout the day and night. The line-up for 2015 includes hours of lively tunes from singers and bands including the Hot Tub Club (featuring Gulfport’s own Mayor and First Lady), Yard Dog Charlie, Joel and Dakota, the Southern Road Dog Band, and Gumbo Boogie. To help you put your NOLA moves together, Cajun dance lessons will be offered to the crowd by Jim Hance twice during the day. In support of our area’s youth, GeckoFest will also present BlueRose, Competitive Edge Dance Company and Project Free’s Rising Stars. GeckoFest ends on a high note each year with its ever-popular, high-energy street dances at both stages starting at 8:00.

GeckoFest’s strolling and stationary street performers bring fun, thrills and a circus atmosphere to the village with a chance to get close to the action. Entertainers will make you laugh, gasp and applaud. Step right up and participate in a magic trick. Witness extreme stunts happening just a few feet away. Tie up an escape artist and watch him maneuver out of his bonds. Pose for photos with your favorite characters. Take home your own free, fanciful balloon creation.

This year’s street performers include past favorites and brand new ones. Father-son duo Dallas and Nick are reprising their amazing feats of fire juggling and escape artistry. The Amazing Kenny returns with his mixture of stilt-walking, juggling, fire-eating and ballooning. Comedy/stunt artist George Gilbert creates both laughter and wow-worthy daredevilry. Crazy Indy climbs into his Cyr wheel to perform outlandish acrobatic feats. Magician Rafael Villa amazes crowds with sleight of hand. Other jugglers, magicians, acrobats, face painters, dancers and aerialists will be on hand throughout the festival area. Favorite costumed characters will be roving the village ready to pose for your photos, including pirate “Captain Jack,” the Transformers’ “Bumblebee,” Ivy “Michael Jackson” King, the “O-Fish-Al” Gecko Goddess, as well as “living statues,” more pirates, fairies, sparkly Mardi Gras revelers and giant geckos.

Parking for GeckoFest is free. Free shuttles also offer visitors an opportunity to park in off-site locations for transportation to and from their vehicle and the festival site. For more information on GeckoFest, directions and parking go to www.GeckoFest.com. Like the Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/GeckoFest. GeckoFest offers a fun-filled opportunity to explore quirky Gulfport, a wonderful slice of “Old Florida,” on one of its most colorful days of the year.
