Copper/Glass/Shell Artist Joan Patterson

Scotland native Joan Patterson nourished her creative growth as a child with countless visits to the museums of Glasgow.  In the early 1990s, following a vacation to Miami, she relocated to Jupiter, Florida where she still resides.

After self-taught study and work in stained glass, she progressed into three-dimensional forms that have evolved into the jewelry and home accents that are now her signature pieces.  Her work primarily incorporates copper and glass, with inspirations from nature, Art Deco and Art Nouveau styles.  Additionally, some of her pieces incorporate limpet shells which her sister collects from Scottish beaches and sends to her.

Patterson’s jewelry includes bracelets, earrings, chokers and pendants.  Her home accents include night lights, fan and lamp switch pulls, window decorations and tabletop clocks.

She shows her work in numerous art shows throughout Florida, and has offered her art work through Domain Home Accessories & Gallery for many years.

Florida Woodcarver Appearing This Saturday

Sea turtles by Daniel "Abrahan" Flores

Domain Home Accessories & Gallery will host a reception to feature Florida woodcarving artist Daniel “Abraham” Flores.  This installment of Domain’s monthly “Meet the Artists” events will take place on Saturday, June 20th, 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. at 3129 Beach Boulevard South in Gulfport.

Complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvre will be offered as well as live music by jazz saxophonist Henry Ashwood.

Daniel “Abraham” Flores is a Florida native who currently resides in Panama City Beach. His fascination and love for the outdoors, where he encounters sun, sand, fish, birds and other creatures inspire much of the subject matter for his art. The lore of the sea also inspires his works depicting whimsical mermaids.

Most of his pieces are carved and sculpted on recycled wood salvaged from construction sites, lumber yards and mills. He also applies his signature carvings to vintage furniture. After being carved, the pieces are painted, and then thickly layered with protective lacquered finishes. His art works are often mistaken for polished ceramics due to their texture and sheen. Most wall-hung pieces are suitable for display in protected outdoor areas.

Flores offers his art work at numerous outdoor festivals and markets. Since his introduction to Domain visitors three years ago, he has developed a significant number of local collectors and has proven to be one of the most popular artists represented there.
